Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: The Perfect Remake
I went into this game with high expectations. Very high. And it didn’t disappoint. There is much to talk about. Let’s discuss what makes this game perfect:
Final Fantasy VII, released in 1997, defined a generation. It represented both the early 90s and the early 2000s generation; from the story to the music and gameplay, it changed how games are made. Square Enix did something unbelievable in 1997. Then, in 2020, the company turned around and did it again. In my opinion, the Final Fantasy VII Remake defined the PlayStation 4. This year, which is wild to me, Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. And I thought the Remake was perfect. I was very wrong. I think there will never be a game like FF VII Rebirth again.
The story is crazy. It captures the heart and soul of the 1997 game. Every moment that wasn’t in the Remake was here in this game, from Vincent to the Golden Saucer to everything else. It’s wild how much content is here. In every chapter, something happens. And it keeps going until the very end of the game. Getting to know Sephiroth’s story is crazy. Getting to know Zack and Cloud is also crazy. And the fact that we may be in multiple universes is also intriguing. This game doesn’t stop from the awakening of the Black Materia to “that” crazy moment. That’s how crazy it is. Now, I believe we have the complete package for this game. This means we might not get a DLC. The ending is super clear, and this is the entire pack. It’s a big old cliffhanger. And if that’s the case, we may have to wait for Final Fantasy VII Part 3 for a while since Kingdom Hearts 4 is Square’s main priority now.
The combat is fantastic. Square Enix took the advice and complaints from Remake and fixed everything. And that’s all I have to say. The world is massive. Each region is enormous. For a moment, I thought the Greenlands, the game’s first central area, was the whole game! I was stunned by this world. And each region is beautiful. It’s gorgeous to look at. I spent a lot of time just walking around admiring the atmosphere. That’s why I have over 100 hours in this game. This game is just beautiful.
The music is insane. Nobuo Uematsu is back after years with Square Enix. He proves he can create a memorable soundtrack for every game. And he did just that. From recognizable tracks like Jenova, Costa del Sol, and even a Rebirth version of One-Winged Angel, the Remake of these tracks is insane. And then new tracks, like the region’s overworld themes, battle themes, and many others. Some of my favorite new songs are Demon Gates, the Main Theme of FFVII- Battle Edit, and The Junon Region- Battle Edit. The music in this game is crazy. And I could not believe that it could be outdone. I listen to the music daily just because it’s that wild. Here are some reasons why: Using synthesizers and orchestral instruments is insane, as in Materia Guardian. Or even in the first round of Jenova, also known as Emergence. Most of these insane moments are in the first two minutes. Another example that comes to my mind is Demon Gates. I actually can’t stress enough how crazy this song is. It’s probably my favorite song in the whole game. It’s just a wild song that combines the insanity of drums and metal, and the choir is so haunting. Of course, the horns play a big part in this song. But the strings steal it for me. They play a massive part in making the nightmare feel. In some parts, there is a faint sound of an electric guitar in the background. Overall, this song screams a nightmare. This soundtrack screams Final Fantasy. Not only with futuristic sounds, but also with a hint of medieval influences. Making this the ultimate Final Fantasy soundtrack.
Once again, there will never be a game like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth because everything Square Enix accomplished for this game can’t be done again. The feel, the gameplay, the story, the graphics, and the music were pushed to the very limit of video game making. Every gamer has their eyes on Square Enix for every game. Because we know it could be a fantastic game. And this team exceeded every expectation. Congratulations to Square Enix. What a joy to play this.
